Yes, since he powers down his system for WCs, that's a good possibility. Had a SeaClone that clogged every time it was shut down; feeding a few drops of freshwater through the airline cleared it out.

Seems to be the only time a skimmer will act up for me, is upon restart.

Interesting. I've never had one go crazy after startup. Just after using epoxy or feeding food with too much gel binder. Usually this is obvious because the frozen food is tough to break apart. This used to happen a lot with Ocean Nutrition stuff, but their QC seems to be better these days. As far as epoxy, I just had that happen yesterday after rearranging some thing LOL. Never shut down the skimmer until I went down in the basement and saw my sump was full of foam LOL.

It's also possible that when you powered down the Skimmer the water running out of the skimmer cleaned out the Tunze pump of some small blockages. you may want to readjust your skimmer so that it is working correctly now and check to see if it remains

Good point. I did clean the pump and impellor because some filter floss string was inside the teeth.

Reef epoxy had long been know to overflow skimmers. I would bet that is the problem. Next thing I would check is the actual needlewheel to verify that it is free of any small debris, snail or chiton shells.
