my skimmer has been foaming like crazy.
it takes about 10 seconds to fill up the collection cup.
    is my protein skimmer broken?
is there anything i can do to fix it?

Sounds like pressure is building up. Is something blocking the output? How long has it been running. Did it just start doing this or is it new?

Adjust it to a dryer skim and bring it back wet a little at a time over the next week or two.

Should be a way to adjust the output tube thus lowering the water level inside so there is less water and more air in the skimmer body.

The output tube slides up and down. Slide it down to lower the water level in the body.

It's OK that your new. We all start somewhere. I'm just glad your asking questions and trying to get better at the hobby. :)
