I have a Reef Octopus XP2000 Internal Skimmer. I've had it almost a year.... It sits in constant 6 inch water depth. I had a problem with the pump, so Coralvue nicely just replaced the pump.

Everything was fine with the new pump. I rearranged my sump some with the new plumbing under my new tank. Just repositioning the skimmer.

Now, the darn thing is overflowing non-stop regardless of the gate valve position.

    Ideas??? :-/

I am going to try raising the skimmer to 5 1/2 inch water depth.... Manufacturer states 6-10" but maybe this new pump is just too strong....

Is it overflowing with water? Or overflowing with "skimmate bubbles"?

you need to reduce the pump input so put all ball vale on it and crank it down some

I agree, your GPH maybe too much on your new pump.. I had the same problem with my Reef Devil Deluxe skimmer when I upped the pump to a 1050GPH & had to go back to a Mag 7 which is 700GPH.

Either put a valve in between your pump & skimmer or get the same GPH pump.

It was overflowing continuously with wet skimmate bubbles... it would fill the collection cup with water in a matter of 10 minutes.

I did crank the gate valve down and it still was overflowing.

After lowering it to 5 1/2, it is looking more normal. I've got it running now and it did not immediately overflow. I'll give some time and see how it does.

I may have to put a valve in there. Would a valve go at the pump outlet or inlet?? I would think outlet.... literally between the pump and the skimmer.

I have the 1000 internal and mine does the same thing... It has been running for a week or so, and sits in about 7.5 inches of water.

Whenever I can dial mine down to working well it just overflows in the next 2 hours into madness again

Raising it to 5 1/2 inches depth and and having it all the way choked on the gate valve is working at the moment. I am just letting it run and we shall see.

You're never supposed to limit the input of a pump, for cooling reasons.
