Ok, I am kindof a newbie, and just started my second tank. I purchased the Coralife needlewheel skimmer for 65 gallon. My first tank was a nano-reef, so this is my first time using a skimmer. I do know that micro-bubbles are NOT GOOD in any tank, and even though the skimmer came with a bubble trap, the micro bubbles are DUMPING into my tank badly! It is starting to get on my liverock and turning parts of my rock black due to air from the bubbles, please help! This tank is not even cycled yet and I need to fix this problem. Can someone please tell me how to stop the microbubbles! The chamber of the skimmer is FILLED with them. I have made NO changes or done anything. I followed the directions to a "T", and still cannot figure out why it is doing this!

The easiest way to remove micro bubbles is to run the return of the skimmer through filter material like the blue white pad or a sponge before it enters the tank. Also which chamber are you saying is full of micro bubbles? The main chamber should be filled with micro bubbles as thats how a skimmer works.

You might want to talk with Covey, He owned one of these skimmers. You may have may have the water level too high in the reaction chamber. Plus most skimmers will produce some bubbles till they break in although yours sounds excessive.

Skimmers also toss off more microbubbles as they break in.

BTW, it's handy if you add your basic setup to your signature. It allows us to more quickly see what is going on and offer better advise.

That said, I ass-u-me you are running a sump. Do you have room to add a bubble trap between the skimmer and the return pump?

Hey all I am a newbie as well but I second Blade Runner as the few skimmers I have used so far seam to blow some bubbles for a day or so when new.

A little time and a little filter pad has solved the problem for me.

Also I have had the bubbles under the rocks with no ill effects. If it is turning your rock black try to turkey baster the larger bubbles out.

Good Luck with your new tank:)
