I am upgrading the plumbing in my 135 to go with 1 sump with an Iwaki 100 return pump.
I am also getting an ETSS 500 Skimmer.

Can I valve off of I Iwaki 100 and go to the skimmer with another valve and run the skimmer off of that pump also?

I would come out of the sump then T one side with a valve to the Iwaki 100 Pump, then off the T put a Valve and then go to the Skimmer.

what do you think? With those valves I should be able to control them...and the skimmer has a gate valve.

If it can be done and I am planning it wrong, please let me know what to do to accomplish this.

    Thanks!

you have the right idea.. Before you go buy that iwaki pump, look at pan-world pumps.. they are awesome..

I already bought an Iwaki 100 and an Iwaki 70....I was going to run the 70 for the skimmer but its too much.

So I want to T off and use the one Iwaki 100 and then keep the 70 as a spare for now.

So this is doable and has been done with success?

from my understanding, it will work if your protein skimmer is a recirculating model.. you need something to make microbubbles..

You say a ETSS 500 Skimmer ETSS has had several different styles of skimmers called a 500 , And having ran ETSS for many yrs from the Reef Devil to the old Commercial Towers like the ETSS 5,000 I will tell you they are require lots of water and pressure for their sized and system they are designed to run on . I'd pass on that 100 Iwakie and get a reef Flo (Dart) or a Dolphin 2700 Amp master

I have two of the 100 Iwakie's setting in the garage now totally seized up and after only a few yrs of operation . Don't get sucked in by its name be it the American or Japanese name on it . And either of the two pumps I named will run all you would ever need on a 135 all the skimmers reactors chillers that one would ever need .

I already bought and have the Iwaki 100 and the Iwaki 70....I am going to keep the Iwaki 70 as a backup for now in case the 100 dies on me.

The big thing is can I use the Iwaki 100 for the supply into the tank and then T off of it for the skimmer? I will get you a picture of the skimmer so you can see it....

    Let me know....Thanks!

If you are asking me what I think ? Huum that looks like a old style Gemini 500 and they take a lot of water about 700 to 800 GPH and high pressure ETSS skimmers are great but they are finicky to dial in and learn how to operate them .. The is will take Iwaki 55 RLT-Max all by its self and the 100 you have may do it all ? and with the ETSS you need to pass 4 to 5 times the tanks volume through the sump to the skimmer per Hr thats their optimum operating speed and flow requirements

You have a waste collection reservoir for that skimmer ? a jug or bucket Will not do .. Our you can try one but I bet you flood the house a few times . These skimmes wil go crazy and foam a few gallons any old time until dialed in correctly .

Oh man....now I am nervous and skeptical about getting this skimmer. Is the 60V Sump buddy a better bet for me then? I can get a brand new one for $250 from a local guy here.

If not what do you suggest I do...hold out for an Aqua C?

I really want to run everything off of one pump, but I also want to do it the right way...and not flood my house most of all.

    Thanks!
