    I turn everything off for about an hr or so just to make sure everything is getting what it needs.

    I would turn off the skimmer when feeding marine snow, phytoplankton or any other planktonic foods. I wouldn't when I feed the fish.

    Everyone has their own technique. Its like they say what works for one might not work for the other. The only real situation out of all this is you cant duplicate mother nature.

    Have you ever been reef-diving, or even swimming in the tropical Atlantic or Caribbean? You'll be surprised at how different it is from the northeast coast. Don't ask me why, but that's how it is.

    As far as turning off filters or skimmers, that's a personal choice. But when someone asks about feeding/dosing/medicating, I say yes, so that the fish, corals, or whatever get the lion's share of what you are adding to the tank.
