A few weeks ago I decided get rid of my CPR bak pak dual( well it decided when it cracked) and I bought a new Remora.
Although I dont think it is any louder than the bak pak, even when I put some filter pad in the chamber to baffle the sound as I had seen other online do, the noise is enough to wake me overnight. I believe it is just do to a differant type of noise from the jet stream instead of a venturi sucking air.

I am considering putting it on a timer to go off and on on the same cycle as my lights. Anyone see a problem with doing this.

On a goos note this thing is amazing, I used to empty my bak pak once a week , I have to empty this thing at least once a day and the cup is alot bigger, i have seen a big change in my corals since putting this on, i had no idea how much wasnt coming out of the water

personally I would say no you don't want to put it on a timer. at least not a timer that turns if off at night, because from my understanding of skimmers, they work best at night. so it would kinda defeat the purpose. that's just my opinion.

But what's more important? Some good overnight skimming or a good night's rest?

I say time it in the name of your personal health.

yeah I understand their health is important.:cheesy: I was thinking about the health of the tank. And skimming during the night is the best time to do it. I know I sleep with an air purifier in my room so I guess noise for me is common. If it ends up being to much and you can get accustomed to the noise then yes for your health put it on a timer, No hobby is worth your personal health.

I agree with figuring out the source of the noise and fixing it.

and if all else fails...with time you should get use to the noise and be no problem. I never thought i'd sleep again after moving right by the airport but i can't imagine falling asleep now without the sound of an airplane zooming by

i did this too. very quiet. i actually use a couple paper towels wet with aquarium water on the sides and top of injection tube. just make sure you change the paper towels frequently, they get pretty nasty with skimate if you dont. sometimes i have to use needle nose to pull the paper towels out cause i have so many in there, but its worth it. i have also heard of people cutting credit cards to fit to make a more permanent baffle.
