I saw about 4 of these after lites out. It has a long proboscus with the shell being sort of iridescent (like mother-of -pearl).

I don't see the shell. Looks like a common Sea Hare. Keep a good count of them, depending on the type, if it dies it will poison the tank.

Looks like a dirty ol' stomatella to me.......... Hard to tell with the debris attached to it.
Looks as if this one is struggling to be bigger than the strand of chaeto in the pic. If it is a hare and dies, you probably won't even notice it.

It does look like a Stomatella animal, but I can usually see the spire of the shell through the mantle. The iridescent shell sounds like a Stomatella too, so I'll guess that's what it is. If it's not that, it's probably a fissurellid, one of the species with an animal that is considerably larger than the shell like the genus Amblychilepas.

    Cheers,

    Don

THe shell only covers about 1/3 of the body. Thanks for suggesting stomatella. Are they bad? Or bad only if they die?

Never mind found my own answer, good for tank, algae eater.

They are beneficial, they like to eat algae :)

The above about being bad if they die is regarding a sea hare. Personally I don't think it's a sea hare, I'm going with stomatella, and when they die no biggie.
