I'm looking to add some more light to several Nano-Reefs, one as small as a 3 Gallon Eclipse. I'd like something fairly simple and straight forward. LEDs are a cool new thing, but buying all the parts and assembling before trying to pack it into the hoods is not all that attractive of a proposition. I was thinking more along the lines of 9w or 13w PC or T5. I have a clip on Penn-Plax 9w fixture that's pretty neat, as it appears to have the ballast built into the powerpack that you plug into wall.

BTW, the cheaper the better. These damn college books are getting more and more expensive.

An idea that I currently have is to pick up some GX23 sockets, ballasts, and bulbs. Mount the sockets to the existing hoods, make all the connections waterproof, and then mount the ballasts remotely.

That's is about your only option. T5 go down to 18" length only. You should be able to squeeze a few over the nano.
