This is my first post, however I have been drifting around the site for a while now, and it seems to have the most knowledgeable and helpful people of any site I've found. I'm in the process of setting up my first saltwater tank and have a question. I have a sump that is rather small in the last section (skimmer/return) and am in need of a skimmer with a small footprint? It needs to be something like the coralife65 or the dimensions anyways. I would go with that one, but am finding mixed reviews on the quality and durability of it. Price really isn’t an issue, although I would like to keep it under $500 if possible. Thanks for the help!

I just started using a Cad Light PL100,it has a footprint of only 4.5"x4.5" and I believe is rated for tanks up to 100gal.There is a review of this skimmer on this site, just search Cad Light skimmer.

What size tank, and what footprint? I did not have any luck with my Coralife 65, and replaced it with an Eshopps 100H skimmer (HOB). A million times happier with it!

Im running a 10 gallon sump, and was able to squeeze a Reef Octopus XP1000 SSS in there. Heck of a skimmer, no complaints.

I see you said that you wanted to put it in the return section. Do you have any room in the first compartment where the water from the tank enters the sump? That is typically the skimmer section. But that all depends on the room that you have.

Its a 54g corner, so I purchased the model 1 sump that is made for the stand? (will probably attempt a dyi but wanted to get everything up and running and see how it worked before doing one. The last section has a 9.5" x 7" footprint. As for the inlet section it has alot of stuff already piped into it being its made by aqueon? I looked at the octopus sump saver but dont think it will fit? I've been looking at the SC 65, as I came across a thread with people having some sucess with them (has anyone tried this skimmer?). Thanks for the replys

Each skimmer lists what the dimension are. Look those up.

+1 the Cad Lights Pipe-Less. Its footprint is the smallest and is perfect for your sump. It has won awards for best innovation 2012. You should not put skimmers in return section because water level isn't constant. This will play havoc on any skimmer. Try to move things around in your sump if possible. If you have no choice, then maybe try and get a water top-off so that sections water level stays relatively stable.
