On my way to be I made my usual once over on my 55G. I noticed earlier that my RBTA was more bubbly, brighter and fuller today. More than usual at least. During my once over I noticed that it has shrunk like it was "pooping" but had a whistling shaped lips and was smoking from its mouth. I made a quick 10 minute research about it on Google and came to the conclusion that it may be ready to split? I just performed a 10G water change on my 55G (+10G sump). To make matters worse is that my area is testing the electricity from 2am till 5am... now I have to worry about my overflow, water movement and temp for those 3 hours on 2 different tanks (my 55G reef and 100G aggressive).... So any inputs on what may be happening?

If it's blowing smoke like stuff, it is most likely spawning. Anemones generally won't split unless it feels it will die (there is a big thread regarding this now). BUT, if it is trying to reproduce via spawning, that's isn't so much the case. When an anemone wants to split, it will wrap itself around a rock ad literally will rip itself in half and the mouth will take on a tight oval shape.
Just curious, what type of lighting do you have it under?

I tend to agree with Mike. Sounds like a reproductive event – if you are concerned for water quality continue with the water changes and run fresh carbon.

bta’s can either split or reproduce via the old fashion way – which is more than likely the case here.

If you think your overflow will stop your water movement consider putting a temporary powerhead in the tank. If you have circulation in your DT you will be fine. But maybe your power won’t toggle on and off and your overflow will continue to work.

Question – if your over flow fails to siphon, what happened in your sump and your equipment there? Will the return pump fill the tank (overflow concerns?) and run dry?

I really wouldn't be concerned over 3 hours, not even the temp - unless the over flow fails and your sump runs......

TigerMike: I have a Current Sundial 48" T5 Lighting. 216w sitting on top of the take. No gaps between light and tank. RBTA is about 9" (roughly halfway) down inside the tank under a bridge of rock so it can spread out its bubbles in the light during the day.

Crimson_Ghost: I was worried about no flow more or less. I am pretty confident that I have my overflow and sump setup to where it will contain the excess back flow of water in case of a power outage. I haven't been able to break the siphon on this Eshopps PF-300 yet. Also I have a ball valve to control the water level in the sump (recirc).

This morning it looks fine and dandy! My wife was very worried. The RBTA is her favorite along with her 2 Nemo's.... lol, go figure. I wonder if the spawning could be successful between my larger RBTA and my smaller Green Bubble Tip Anemone that is right next to it (4" away)...

Anyway, thanks guys for the help!!
