    Hi All,

I'm worried about my snails and hermit crabs starving, because I'm not sure if they have enough to eat in my tank or not. The only algae I have is green algae growing on the glass, but that's it. None on the rocks or sand. I also have a small cyano bacteria issue, but from what I understand the crabs and snails won't eat that, and I'm working to get that eradicated.

How can I tell if they have enough to eat, and if they don't, what should I do?

    Thanks!

There's not really any way to tell. I pretty much let mine starve if they don't have enough. Keeps the population in check.

    Hi Kc
+ 1 on Mikejrice for me
nature is a wonderfull thing and even in our artificial version of nature, many similar principles apply. A balance will be struck,
even in tanks that look sterile ( wonderfully clean) snails and hermits find enough to eat
and their numbers are kept in check based on the enviroments ability to support them

dont try and target feed these creatures out of concern for their well being , they require very small amounts of food to survive and the consequences of over feeding you tank could have other more concerning consequences ( falling water quality, algae, worse cyno etc.)

Its sad but true. Your tank will find a balance. I don't clean my tank at all and it stays looking like there is nothing to eat. There's still an army of crabs and snails wandering around in there finding something though.

Okay, I do see the benefit of not target feeding. I'll let it go and see what happens. I'm just a huge softie!

    Thanks a lot!
