snails in reefs?

    Most limpets eat algae, typically diatom and film algae.

    ...made me check when I posted it.. never really thought about it.8)
    ALSO...I heard somewhere that you should have APPROX. 1 snail per gallon..is that some urban saltwater reef legend?

    That's seems about right. Although I have about 3 snails per gallon LOL.:p

    should i have the size snails to fit my size tank? ive got 55g so should they be smaller?

    As Swims said, your snail should be fine in your tank, but it's actually a trochid, Cittarium pica, rather than an Astraea (which is in the Turbo family).

    lets see here..90 gal....
    I have approx. 8 Mexican turbos...10 Nerite..about 10 or so Nassarius..about 16 bumble bee(assassin)...many many ceriths..a few other odd balls..I'd say 60 plus...but maybe more that ya just never see.. get'n close...I could use more...but then back to that Hermit thing...they will eat snails...just for the hale of it ! :)
    ...always adding here and there.
