Snowflake Eel

i got my first fish for my tank! i purchased a 6 inch snowflake eel. he looks very healthy, and has found a home (not the one i made for him) under some live rock. will he knock stuff over as time goes on? the top is on tight, all holes are covered, and i fed him some frozen krill by hand today. he was voracious!!! beautiful little guy. i will try to take a pic and post it if i can borrow a computer camera. the damsels in the tank wont go near the eel's new home. they stay to one side of the tank now. the eel snapped at one of them when it got too close, so now they keep their distance. all my levels stayed consistent. nothing rose. shouldn't i see a mini cycle? and i can twait for my girlfriends tank to cycle to transfer the damsels. little bastard bit me while i was aquascaping. they are cute little blue things, but dangerous!!! ;-)

I guess that was as good a fish to start with as any. You just have to make sure now that the fish you buy are too big for his mouth! Remember, if it moves, it's food!!! [/glow] [smiley=goldfish.gif]

[glow=Green, 1, 600]What are you thinking of adding next? You might consider adding a couple at a time, like the tang and the angel. Again, you don't want them to develop a territory before you add the next one, and with tangs, angels, etc., it doesn't take long!

in the other post you told me any of them was a good one to start with. i saw a beautiful young eel at the LFS and i couldnt resist. what do you think would be best for the next one? how long should i wait? should the tank mature for a while before an angel or tang is introduced? i think i want the singapore angel, i like the way it looks a little more then the personifer, plus its a lot cheaper! ;-) could you take a look at "The Final Fish List" post for me? thanks wrassman! plus, how do you make those cool smilies?

 

maybe i could add the tang and angel together as the last fish to go in. would that be wise? but what if i wait to get them, and the dwarf lion eats them because they are small? are the dwarf fuzzy lion able to eat fish like that when they are young? i heard the dwarf fizzies only get to be 4 or 5 inches...

 

My first marine animal to was a snowflake and he ate everything. I added a few clams to my tank and boy did he have a feast I never would have thought they would eat clams but mine sure did. He now resides in a tank by himself since he likes eating everything I put in there.

 

hehe. mine is a good citizen thus far. he only eats what i feed him by hand. if the food falls out of my hand, he will just looks at it as it falls past him. he's lazy, but still great to have in the tank.

 

My snowflake started out as a model citizen and then it started dining on any sleeping fish. 5' when it went in the tank, 10" when it left the tank for the LFS two months later.

I'm worried about my 7-inch snowflake eel. He hides under some live rock all day and I rarely see him. Its been a week since i have fed him and i was wondering how long he can he go without eating.

How is your water quality, tested it recently?
What fish do you have?

 

My water quality is usualy good, though I haven't tested in a while.  I have him in with a small radiata and two damsels.  I've had him for about 3 months and he started to stay out of sight all day starting about 2 1/2 weeks ago.  When I do see him i feed him and he eats well.
