I have a small snowflake moray about 7 inches, and a condy anem. The condy is doing great. I have been feeding both of them small pieces of fresh shrimp that I keep in the freezer. Lately the snowflake has become extremely aggressive. I will feed him, and then feed the anem. The anem wraps itself around the food and begins to eat it, then the eel goes in there and takes the food right out of the anem. It looks like the eel is getting stung, but he doesnt care. He goes right in there and takes out the shrimp.
Does anybody have any ideas to keeping this eel with the anem?
I really dont want to, but am leaning towards bringing him back my LFS and trading him in.
Oh yea, and he ate my baby clownfish too.

I am not that familiar with snowflakes but quick web search leads me to believe that there is not a whole lot that you can do besides remove the offenders/victims.

It says they may occasionally bother corals/nems when feeding - so not a whole lot to do there beside perhaps feed the eel a bit more before trying to feed the nem?

It says they are known occasionally eat smaller fish, and that once they do - they are more likely to keep doing so.

Not the info you wanted to hear but it's what I am seeing.

Sounds like you aren't feeding him enough. I've had a snowflake eel for about 14 months now and haven't had any aggression problems with him. I feed him about 3 whole silversides (I used to cut them into smaller pieces when he was a baby) every other day. A happy snowflake will be content hanging out in the rock work. If yours is out and about actively roaming the tank, he's probably hungry. I would suggest feeding him until he no longer shows interest in the food and then try feeding the anemone. A wooden bbq skewer works great and keeps your hands and fingers out of the strike zone lol.

jaydub: how big was your eel when you first put him in your tank? how fast did it grow? is a seventy five gal big enough to house a full grown snowflake? how much can I feed mine and still be safe? he seems to have a bottomless stomach.

SeaLevel: Mine was no bigger than a pencil in length and diameter and in about 14 months he has grown to almost 16" long and about an 1" in diameter -- really fast growers! I would say that a 75 gallon is plenty big enough. A fair amount of live rock in there for him to hide in and feel secure is recommended, as well as a tight fitting lid as they have a reputation for being escape artists. Especially hungry ones because they seem to be roaming the tank alot more than full ones that are fat and happy just to hang out in the rocks. I don't think you can really overfeed them in one setting (like a goldfish for example), so I would just keep feeding him until he stop going after the food. Mine can down 3-4 large and whole silversides every other night.
