Picked up a purple digitata frag about a week ago and added it to our tank. It looked great until a certain snail (not sure what it is, it was a hitchhiker on another piece) found it. Looks almost like the snail is eating away at the polyps, we toss him off and across the tank and within a few hours the snail is stuck back to the digitata. Is there a certain type of snail that will eat these things or are we just paranoid?

There maybe, but I have not heard of any.

If it is eating the polyp and you have removed it why are you putting back into the tank?

We have not removed the snail yet because We are not 100% sure that the snail is eating it but he seems pretty attracted to it.

You would see if it was eating the polyps where it was at because there would be none there. I would be wary of the snail because it is attached to the spot. I have no snails that journey over my corals.

It seems like every where he is the polyps are gone. It is the only snail that we have of that type but we are not sure what it is so we are trying to find out if there is a specific snail that eats at them. The snail does not bother any other of our corals and he has been in the tank for at least 6 months and as soon as we put the frag in there he will not leave it alone. We put the frag into our pico tank to recover it seems like he is doing okay we are just trying to find out the deal with the snail.

I'm fairly sure some limpets will eat certain corals. Is it a limpet?

No it does not look like a limpet. We are trying to get a picture of it but we are working with a camera phone.
