Sostoudt's tanks again!

this is a simple mod. I did it because the skimmer box on the skimmer is almost useless. It's too small to properly do its skimming. the water level gets to low on it it will suck in bubbles and break siphon. If the level is too high it will not skim.

You may be able to get it to work properly with a overflow or a continous and very sensitive ATO. I just went ahead and took it off because I do have a overflow now and it mixes the protein film up with the rest of water, so I didn't see to much of a point.

I believe the skimmer box also reduced the siphon flow through the skimmer do to it u shaped trip flow must make through it. I think the water in the skimmer is marginally higher now.

Even though I feel the improvement isn't huge I still think the tube straight down looks better then the bulky box.

well I have to start controlling myself more at the lfs. I got another tang, I think my small tank won't support them for more then a year or two. but hey its the first successful matching of a sailfin I have done.

 

maybe tommorrow. I gotta do some cleaning, my skimmer was decommisioned for maitanence yesterday, and I got some algae from it.
