I just saw this on Discovery, the show is called "Human Planet". I recommend seeing it.

But I was curious, is the fish that gets speared a Sailfin Tang?

I saw that a while ago, but, yes, that's a Sailfin tang that he spears. A lot of work to spear such a small fish. Awesome shot, though!

I didn't have the sound on as I have to be quiet here. So I didn't completely catch what was going on.

    It appears so.

    I free dive 99% more then I SCUBA .

FWIW the country where that was filmed, the Philippines, happens to be not only the largest global supplier of marine ornamental livestock, it also happens to be the country that gave the marine ornamental it's "start" as far as being an industry. We owe Earl Kennedy a debt of gratitude for starting the industry for the hobby we all enjoy so much :D

TRUE spearfisherman only free dive. No scuba gear. I go to belize once a year to visit my grandpa.. The spear guys there can hold there breath like no other, its amazing. They might as well have gills haha. Its actually much harder than it looks.. Even if your in more shallow waters. I want to go to the philippines!

So what your saying is that the environment we see in this video is basically the natural environment of all our mixed reef livestock? Not a shocker but cool none-the-less.

I spearfish (and pick abalone) off the coast of California and to spearfish with scuba gear is not only against the law but you'll lose the respect of your fellow divers. Whenever you have scuba gear on its a safe bet that you shouldn't be killing anything. It's simply an unfair advantage and if everyone did it the ocean would be destroyed in short order.
