Anyone know if a spider crab is harmful to star polyps?
I ask, because mine is spending all his time on a very mature specimen...and I thought he was cleaning...but now I'm not so sure.
    Thanx in advance,
    LG :p

What type of "spider" crab is it? Do you know a scientific name by chance or do you have a pic? There are a few crabs listed as spider crabs, at least thats what I've seen them called.

    Thanks

Ahh, arrow crab, thats why common names are tough because already two people call the same crab two different names. They are semi reef safe, by that I mean it will potentially pick on corals and also as it gets larger it will try to "spear" fish.... for all you that don't believe me I saw my buddies come w/in mm's of catching a damselfish!!
The main thing is it will DECIMATE your bristle and polychaete worm population, rendering your rock and sand bed sterile for lack of a better term. I would try to supplement feeding it so it is less likely to "hunt" and forego adding any more spider/arrow crabs.

    Good luck and nice pics!!

I only had one a few days and he was eating my hermits. Caught him in the act. I suspect that he killed a fish too.
I sold it to a store here. Cool crab and very fun to watch.

I had one too. It molted once but never harmed anything because when ever I would feed my sun coral he would eat the mysis off of that. He didnt even kill the bristle worms that I got him for. I was told to watch out when he got too big that he would spear fish. Mine for some reason moed away from the sun coral and started to loose limbs then died! I will agree fun to watch!
