    Hey Everyone,

Hoping you can help.. I noticed some spots on my Naso today. Should I get him out of the tank right away and treat with copper or should I try lowering the salinity/keeping the lights out.

HELP- this is a really cool fish and I'd hate to loose him.

    Thanks!

Let's see a pic of it/him/her. Depending on the overall health of the fish and water quality, you might not have to do anything.

It's most likely Kryptocarion(Marine Ich). If thats the case, I wouldn't do anything. It will probably pull through without copper and copper will just stress it out. If it has Kryptocarion, then the parasite is already in the tank and removing the fish won't make a difference to that either. All things considered, I would leave the fish unless it gets worse or doesn't get better in about a week.

I tried to get some pictures but as you can see They are really small and tough to see. I only see a couple on his fins. There are a fair amount on his body though. and they make his gray look darker where the spots are. I've never had luck with Tangs. Not giving up yet but I was hoping the Naso would be different.

I wouldn't yank him out. Looks to be fairly healthy from the pics. Make sure it eats well and add some garlic to the diet. I'd worry if it starts to lose weight. And of course, if it develops tons of "spots".

+1 with missions statement, I wouldnt worry yet.
And just for future reference, you might not want to refer to your Naso as him anymore, as its clearly a her ;)

He/She does have lip stick but you never know now a days! :-/

ok- So I will let it in the tank for now. I just wanted to catch it early if I could. I lost a couple hippo tangs in my old tank so was just trying to recreate that with this one. I'll use garlic. Is there any advantage to leaving the lights out.. I heard this helps??????

Just wanted to give you all an update. the Naso still has some spots today so I went and got some Kent Garlic Xtream. (Man that stuff is expensive!) Anyway.. I soaked some romane in a few drops and also soaked some small pellet food before feeding tonight. Is there such thing as too much garlic. Clearly I would not want to douse the tank but if I soak food in it daily is that going to harm anything? What about the lights any advantage to leaving them off? (someone told me it helps)

remickj I am still somewhat new but I had a brown tang that had pretty bad and I read that if you turned the temp up that it could help I ran my temp at 82 and the tang got over it. I don tnow if it was that or the fish was healthy enough to get through it but the ich was very bad. I thought for sure the fish was a gonner. I too feed with garlic now to help keep the fish healthy.
