I am wanting to start some basic hard corals in my tank. I have the following in it at the moment,

    Cup Coral
    Torch Coral
    Candy Cane Coral
    Xenia coral
    Meat Coral (AKA Donut)
    Leather
    GSP

I have 6 blub 54watt Current USA t-5 setup with 6 UVL 454 bulbs. Do you guys think I can keep some basic hard coral? I really like Blue Acro. etc..

    TIA,

    Beamerhack

How deep is your tank? As long as there higher up in the water it should be no problem.

So you are running all 6 lamps the same, the 454?
Thats interesting... Depending on height of tank you will be able to get SPS pretty far down the tank's height.

Yeah I run all same bulbs. My LFS ower uses the same blubs in his store to keep his corals under. I see really good growth out of all my Zoas. I see 2-3 new heads a week. My Torch grows like a weed and all others seem to be growing slow and steady.

My tank is 21 inches tall it is 90 Gallon.

    Thanks for the help!!

Wow, thats just odd to me to have all the same lamps. Obviously there is no dawn/dusk time?
The UVL lamps are alright, I would say in the top third overall if you are looking for pure PAR... I am not sure about the new 454 lamp as it is fairly new and no one that I know of has done any tests on it, I asked Grim but he hasn't gotten around to it.
You could grow SPS at least 1/2 way down the tank, especially lower light ones like Montis and seriatoporas.

Personally if it was me I would try some other lamps.... Not only for spectral qualities but PAR as well... Heck if you wanted all blue lamps I would've recommended ATI's Blue+, very blue and I am SURE it will put out more PAR than the UVL lamps...
I was also shocked at how fast things can grow at first, I mean I see visably new growth on my SPS even just after coming home from work...

A fixture with all 454s! Very interesting. I am running 1 454 in combo with my 4 bulb fixture. I also run 1-ATI aqua blue special, 1-ge 6500k, and another UVL super actinic. I like the color ranges that pop out. You should post a pic of your tank with all 454s.

The blue and purple acros require the most lighting. Keep at the top of your tank and you should be fine. Make sure to acclimate them to the light though.
