sps without a skimmer

i know your supose to run a skimmer but since im not adding much nutrients and organics,my removal critters are hopefully doing there job i dont think i need more skimming i have a liverock only refugium a clam,scallop,coco worm and feather for organics and nitrate removal.also some mushrooms (and xenia coming up soon) only 2 damsels just for a trace of ammonia for the system i think my turbo snails add more waste then the fish

but i already have a red monti growing really quickly in my tank and a purple birdsnest i just added a neon spongodes today that looks pretty nice

i want a few more sps not really a dominant sps tank just a porites maybe a staghorn and a monti or 2

SOO will it really harm anything to not have a skimmer longterm also i do use chemipure elite for phospate removal

 

SPS are definitely possible without a skimmer, the skimmer will just reduce maintenance needed, if you keep your nutrient levels low and calc/alk/mag at proper levels then SPS will grow, regardless of which nutrient removal method(s) you use. Good luck with the tank!

 

There are a number of stunning tanks that are almost all sps that run without skimmers. It's a balance of bio-load, it can be done without issue. The coral in my avatar is in a tank without a skimmer.

It may provide you with a slightly large margin of error. Skimmers are great but not always a must have.
