    Hi guys,

I'm extremely paranoid about pumping water to and from my refugium (power outages and siphons and overflowing) so can I just have a 7-10 gallon tank that would have macros and sand and lr but absolutely no connection to the tank? I would take water from it and out it in the DT, and replenish the fuge with new water.

    Also,
Can I use water from my tank to help cycle the new one?

Please excuse the formatting I'm on my phone.

    Thanks!

Have ya looked into a hang on back fuge!

The water won't help much in cycling! Get a scoop of sand or some LR rubble!

If you're using ro/di 0 tds water for top offs and water changes, what would be the point dumping fuge water into your DT?

The purpose of a fuge is to export nutrients from the DT.

I agree, I don't really see the point of putting new water in the fuge only to transfer it to the DT. Might as well skip the fuge and just add the new water to the DT.

You could take water from the display tank and put it in the fuge and then transfer it back to the displat tank..this would serve the purpose of removing the nutrients but that seems like a royal pain in the butt, and you would need to manually move a crapton of water to make it worthwhile.

A HOB fuge would be the way to go for sure.

If you drill the tank there's no risk at all. Just stay away from HOB overflows.

I have had absolutely no problems with my eshops nano overflow...zilch nada nothing. I have never lost a siphon in it...ever. They are designed not to lose their siphon and they work brilliantly. I turn of my return pump during water changes and maintenance and never once had problems restarting.

Drilling the tank is always a better option but the HOB overflows work great IMO.

Cant drill my tank since its already up....am now setting up an intank refugium. HOB is something I looked into (mainly aquafuge) but since my tank is pre-cut, I would probably have to go with the smallest size, would that even make much of a difference?
