Wondering is anyone has had a starfish for a long time and looking to see how they achieved this.
Most starfish have a short life span in aquariums but ive been looking into these recently.
if any one has any tips let me know
Also pics are a must :)

Well.... this ought to be a short thread. Love them, but have never had a single success story to my name.

Hopefully some useful information will surface.

How would you define "long time" for a starfish? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, I am really asking.

I had a sand sifting star for over two years but I don't consider it a success story. Actually, just the opposite since they can live for much longer if left in the ocean where they belong. Sadly, just one of many mistake purchases made by an ignorant man.

what do you think the downfall of your star was? no fauna left in the sand?

I have had my serpent star for, well, since I started my tank really, so close to 2 years now. I actually thought it ate my fire shrimp, so down in the sump it went. I don't target feed, or specifically feed it at all. It scavenges like stars do naturally and it has survived just fine. I've recently moved it back to the display since I read about when a shrimp doesn't stress it dies, and the star was off the hook. I'll edit with pics later, but it's big as my hand, and the body is half dollar size.

without a doubt. The poor guy finally starved to death. I made the added mistake of adding a diamond goby around the same time I added the starfish. They both starved to death within weeks of each other two years later. The goby had gotten where it was afraid to compete with the other fish for food and was completely reliant on sifting sand for nutrients.

I love the one I have. Every now and then I pull him out and show my kids. Those tentacles are crazy!
