I have a couple of serpent stars, and they've been a fine addition for the past 9 months. They're pretty boring, though, unless you drop a tiny bit of silverside near one. I used to have chocolate chippies, but they'll go for your softies.

For a 90g, I would get a small brittle star or maybe a sandstar. I would only get one or the other, because survivability depends on how clean you keep your tank, how much surface area you have dedicated to sand.....the cleaner the tank the less likely the starfish will survive. The sandstar is one per tank period. They get pretty large. The brittle star is insteresting to watch, and depending on the specimen you aquire, will vary in activity level.

People say that brittle stars will attack livestock. I have heard stories and talked personally to one dude who had a problem with that. But they have to get pretty big to take out a fishy.

Edit: Forgot something.....the sandstar is probably the most useful overall, however, you will hardly ever see it if it is well fed.

They shouldn't take something that big out of the Ocean. Linkias are tough and I wouldn't recommend one. I have a sandsifting star and two brittles that are doing well in my 90. What about a Fromia? I've heard that they're the hardiest of the stars that aren't brittles. My current stars are pretty drab though, not very colorful and hardly ever see 'em. I was thinking about doing a Marble Sea Star myself. Good luck.

I bought a sandshifting star about 1/2 as big as your palm..Nice Looking..
Put him in my tank about 2 months ago.. And have NEVER seen him again.. !!
He went under the sand, and that was it..
I guess he's OK, my water never showed any bad signs.. So if it's for your little girl to watch/enjoy..
JMO But I would say no to a sandshifting star..

    Good Luck, Larry
