aiptasia are a type of anemone they filter the water but they also have a potent sting and reproduce really fast, they can damage corals and are difficult to get rid of if not controlled they can easily become a plague

That being said one of the LFS here (i no longer go there for other reasons) actually has a fuge full of them, literally, they actually plumb water through them for their filtering abilities

i wouldnt want them in my display tank. because once they get a foothold they are a headache to remove. seriously, if you can, get rid of them now.

If the "starfish" is white and soft looking, it is an asterina. If it is about the size of a dime and is made up more like a regular mini starfish these guys will eat your coral if you have any! here is a good read with pics on these guys! GARF predatory starfish 11/25/01

on this subject of stars. recently we found at least a dozen tiny brittle stars. ive got 4 "adult" brittle\bristles. would these adults have reproduced? or are these little guys just hitchhikers? their bodies are the size of a pinhead, and their tentacles wil stretch out about the size of a dime. and they definitely arent the asterina. and apologies if ive taken over this thread, just thought it could be appropraite here in regards to star talk.
