so once again new to this hobby and I had a algea problem before I had signed up for this forum...my LFS sold me a starry blenny he has lots of personality and I actually like him a lot my question is he is doing a great job cleaning up the algea but when that runs out how do I feed him?

That might help but there is a bigger issue to look at. Why do you have algae? What’s your water levels? I run GFO to cut down on phosphates to reduce algae. Blennys can be hard to keep unless system is well established

Welcome!! There are several things to think about. Blennies usually eat hair algea and will not eat other things like cyano, so you need to determine what type of algea you have. If your tank is new, it may still be cycling or at the least going through all the issues that new tanks have. Track down the issues that are causing your algea outbreak and correct them instead of getting a fish or other animal to fix them and you will be much happier in the long run. There are a few really good articles in the new member section that have been a huge help to me and many others. I go back and re read them often. all that being said, blennies are a lot of fun with great personalities however many end up starving after they eat all the algea. Some will eat pieces of Nori sheets or will eat pellets. See if the LFS will feed it pellets while you watch and you may end up getting one that will not starve. Again, welcome and keep posting questions with anything you need help with. This is a great forum!!

yea I have hair algea tank is about 2.5 months old he is awesome and don't wanna give him back the fish store basically rented him to me use him to clean up the tank and then trade him in for another fish that being said he is active and fun to watch would hate to get rid of him so was seeing if there was an alternative as for not getting fish to solve a problem i agree with that i have learned a ton in just a short time its my fault for not being better prepared i have been taking water samples for testing and all levels have been good for around a month now...i have been slowly buying everything i need i am getting a test kit tonight to be able to start testing on my own as for the algea it hasn't been growing or seem to be and day by day the blenny is cleaning it up eventually he will run out

At 2.5 months old are you sure it's hair algae and not a diatom bloom? Your tank is still cycling.

Starry bennies have a ton of personality. Great fish. Mine eats nori, pellets and frozen food. I have no visible algae that he could be eating and is doing great. Had him well over a year.

He does have an annoying habit of grabbing a mouthful of sand and dropping it on my corals as he swims. Drives me nuts, but he perches in the funniest spots. Kids love trying to find him.
