start cycle

    Can i use a freshwater feeder goldfish to start cycle on new salt tank ?

    got my dry rock in and my cruched coral,water,temp 76*, and salt 1.022.
    now i got 40 lb of live sand and a feeder gold fish from pet store what sould i add first ?

    its just mean to add a goldfish cause its going to die. i understand its a feeder but a raw piece of shrimp would have done the same to start your cycle

    raw piece of shrimp was not in stock at the pet store today :) but they had a lot of feeder fish. where do u get raw shrimp at ?

    local super market should have a raw uncooked piece of shrimp

    sooo... who killed the raw uncooked shrimp.

    JK thanks for the info.


    Added live sand and body bagged "mesh net" the now deceased feeder goldfish and put in the overflow cup inside tank.
    will add 50lb live rock over the next few weeks to go with the 50lb of dry rock.
    or do i need more rock with all that sand ?

    wait so you put the fish in there to die and then didnt even let them decompose in there? i think we may help you alot during this setup :D

    fish is in mesh net bag inside tanks overflow, underwater.

    ooh i was thinking you put in the over flow cup not that you put the goldfish in the overflow cup.

    if you want to add the rock that will be fine it also doesn't have to be live rock , all the base rock will become live rock. you could add another 40lbs of base rock and a 10 live rock to seed it. its up to you people do this to try to minimize unwanted hitchikers on live rock.
