So I decided to try dosing vodka about 2 weeks ago. The tank is about 8 months old and stable parameters. currently dosing .4 ml a day 80 proof of the good stuff. This is the same dose I started with from day one and plan to continue it. Currently running GFO/carbon in addition and reduced GFO by 1/2 cup. Nitrates and Phos at 0 with API kit. Before starting dosage Phos was .25 (possibly the vodka working?? lol). Anyways, I decided to start this thread as an update as I go deal. The pic that I took is from an iPhone and not the greatest. I currently have about 5 SPS, 5 LPS and about 4-5 softies. Not all the coral visible in pic. Hoping for the best here and will update accordingly with progress.

Very cool, just be careful...carbon dosing can crash a tank if you aren't careful. Also, I saw you called your vodka "good stuff". I dont know if you know, but you can use any kind. I used complete crap vodka that I would not drink on my tank.

I did read about tank crashes. one of these reasons I am not increasing dosage as recommended and might reduce if numbers stay consistent. the "good stuff" as a drink lol, but for the tank I did use the plastic bottle brand lol.

When carbon dosing, make sure you have your ALK no higher than 7.5 or you will burn some corals

I've read that to keep around 8-9. good info. thanks. right now mine is kinda high at 9.5 that I've been dropping slowly with small water changes. haven't seen burnt coral yet possibly because of my under dosing the booze for my water volume.

that's really good info. thanks a lot. I will work on dropping my alk now. anyone have any good ideas besides letting it get used up or water changes?

Well I would think a water change would probably bring it up depending on the salt you use. So I would let it drop naturally.
