Has anyone ever kept a strict running tally on what they've spent on their tanks, from day one until say a 1 yr, 5 yr, 10 yr. I think it would be interesting to know the outcome.

I agree.....if I knew how much I had spent on this hobby I think I would NEVER be able to sleep again! Upgraded tank 3x (from 29g to 135g), running 3 tanks, equipment, corals.....now that I think of it no wonder I am unable to sleep NOW!

I do know that my spending has dramatically decreased in the last several months. Closed down a few of my smaller tanks and sold them, sold some corals, and actually thinking about selling my FOWLR tank and occupants :{ (golden puffer and scorpion). My spending has slowed to the point that one of my LFS closed! LOL....I dont take full responsibility for that one.....

I have kept every receipt on everything I bought. It is a rather large pile that scares me when I see it. I am too afraid to look. And, I already owned the tank and sump tank....

I have all my receipts, haven't added it up yet. In a little under 3 months, probably around $2500-3000 and I'm finally to a point where my tank is set up and now it's just maintenance costs, which I estimate around $100-150/mo. Mostly power, salt and RO/DI water. I have an extra $500 set aside in case anything drastic comes up, and I am saving towards setting up my 70g as a FOWLER.
