Hello out there. I currently have a 34 gallon Red Sea max which is going great. I've got the bug to start a bigger tank - but only want one tank once I get get the second one going. I'm want set up a shallow tank with more square footage for more corals and want to incorporate my current live rock and the 15 or species of corals I currently have. Once this is done over "X" amount of time I would like to take the Max down and sell it.

Just some quick facts - would like to go from RSM 34 gallon with 30 pounds live rock and 3 inches of argonite to something around 45-75 gallons in a shallow tank with a bare bottom. Possibly even two 33 gallon long tanks sharing a sump. A 29 gallon fish tank sump will be used on what ever setup I decide on.

Any advice out there that has done something similar? What pitfalls to avoid? Any musts that should happen during the process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seen the title and figured you were starting a big tank like 200g+ :)

I would just get one large tank instead of two small ones to mess with.

I wish I could start a 200+ gallon tank - but not in the cards yet. Thanks for the input - the more I think about it - I agree - one tank would be easier. How do I get my live rock from the one tank in the other with out screwing everything up. I assume I have to get the new tank up and running with the correct minimum amount of rock in it for filtration and cycle it. Then how do I add the rock from my old tank - slowly or all at once? If it is slowly - don't I risk crashing the old tank, if I do it quickly do I risk starting another cycle on the new one? Any help would be appreciated.
