Hi I am pretty new to saltwater, but have been keeping freshwater plus high tech planted aquariums for years and now I have finally switched over.

Basically my tank is a 25 gallon with a AC110 refugium, and I was wondering if anyone can give me any stock suggestions. Obviously I would not be filling it up all at once, just taking it slow and recently added a couple of peppermint shrimps and blue knuckle hermits. But what fish could I add? I know a sump would allow me to carry a heavier bioload but my plan is to eventually convert this tank into a sump when I upgrade to a 75-120 gallon aquarium in probably a year from now. Would a skimmer increase my bioload and if so what are some good quality brands?

What I want to add is a pair of clownfish, a royal gramma, a firefish and a yellowhead jawfish. My tank has about 3.85 wpg of T5 lighting because I want to keep some SPS, and I got a DSB of about 4-5 inches throughout.

I would be more than content to keep that number of fish but if I can't with a 25gallon, what could I do to make it possible?

    Thanks for any advice :)

Sorry, way too many fish. With those choices of fish I'd say 3 of them max. The skimmer won't increase the bioload you can add, it will help to keep the water cleaner so you won't have nitrates build up as fast. To have that many fish you would have to have an external sump tank with at least 10 gallons of water in it. IMO.

I would just go with a pair of Clowns and a pair of Firefish. Firefish do better in pairs. I think you would be ok with that.

i would just get the clowns until you upgrade. moving into the 75-120 gallon range opens a lot of doors for fish you can keep.

yea I come to the conclusion that I will just keep a pair of clownfish and that its, and change my 1 year plan to 6 months. This 25 gallon will basically be a grow out frag tank for now to help out trade for other corals and help fund for my 75-120 gallon 6 month project.

i know its overstocking definitely but is there any small nano fishes that I could keep in a 25 gallon?

Generally you can go by inches to determine the amount of fish. Also the type of fish, some fish get territorial so you need more space to prevent them from picking on the other fish. Going by inches meaning 25 gal. you could probably keep 7 inches of fish. Two or three small "friendly" fish or one larger more aggresive fish. I used to have my 30 gal. set up and never had more than 1 extra small trigger, 1 small puffer, or 2 clowns at any one time. That seemed to work great. I then upgraded to a 90 gal. and finally my 120 that I use now. Definitely makes it more enjoyable with the extra space for more fish!
