Does anybody know how they determine what size tank a fish should go into?

 

Its a combination of size, swimming habits, eating habits, and psyche.

 

If you go to, Saltwater Fish: Marine Aquarium Fish for Saltwater Aquariums . The site provides a basic outline for minimum tank size, while sometimes I think they do not advise tanks large enough, most times the recommendations are not too off.

 

every single tank is different its all dependent on your knowledge of the fish your keeping and your filtration theres way to many things to go over this question comes up many many times and you wont ever find the right answer its really all up to you and your preferences

I would add most likely practical experience also.
