So I just got my O.Clown a few days ago and I noticed a pattern starting last night...

Apparently all day he will stay towards the back right corner of the tank and I guess host it... but once its around 9PM he will swim all around the tank freely...

Any idea as to why he is doing this? Also I noticed he sleeps upside down and sometimes w/his face in the sand. Is this normal?

Here is a link to see him swimming around and an idea of what my tank looks like in case you can figure it out and tell me why he only swims around at nighttime.

he looks stressed to me.......How new is that tank?
    What lighting is that?
I also see that your surface water is stagnant, you need a power head to break it up as I see your usiing a hangon filter which is not near enough for a SW tank in my opinion
also get those plastic plants out of there....they will release chemicals and I don't care what they say on the lable...
What are your intentions with this tank? Were you planning on a Nemo tank with a anemome?

Any fish going upside down is never anything good. Just like pierce said, how old is your tank and what are your water parameters? I agree also with the plastic plants, they should never go into a saltwater tank.

Tank is 4 weeks now... cycled... and the paramaters are all clear...!

I agree w/the water being a bit stagnant, I have already ordered a powerhead and it should be here by Wednesday (should have been here a few days ago but shipping mix up).

Also I plan on keeping this 30 gallon tank FOWLR.

He began eating yesterday (got him midday Saturday) and seems to be doing just fine but favoring his corner during the day, its just a night when he roams around the tank and all... Which is what I dont understand.

Also as far as the sleeping part, I've read a few post of people claiming their fish sleep upside down or right side up against the glass at night. You think I should be worried?
Also, I will take out the plants firs thing in the morning.

Your levels may very well be all clear but can we get some actual numbers for nitrites/nitrates/ammonia/pH/alk/Ca/Mg. Some people's definitions of all clear are different than others, depending on where they learned it from.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
This IME this is normal behavior for a clownfish, especially when new. In nature clownfish do not venture far from their host anemone. As the clown gets older it will begin to venture out in the tank once it becomes more comfortable. Clowns hang upside down frequently and reside anywhere from mag floats, heaters to a rock, go figure. Unless the clown is not eating, breathing heavy or has noticable spots on the body I would just give it time.

Just keep an eye on him, watch parameters and go slow adding fish.

    Sorry let me clear that... Amonia - 0, Nitrites - 0, and Nitrates -20-30, PH -8.2, Alk - 1.021

    Edit: Lights are Sunreef 50/50

also when I say he sleeps upside down i dont mean belly up, but just his head facing dowwards and his tail upwards...

Also, I just checked on him and he seems to be back in his littler corner just hanging out...

Heres a vid of him now: drop.io

One more question: does he see the reflection in the tank and think its another O.Clown? He certianly stares at it a lot and occasionally tries to touch it...

It looks like normal clown behavior to me when new to a tank. Plus, he is all alone. So he might be kind of weirded out.

My clowns (I have 3) stay in pretty much the same spot all day. That's normal for clowns. Mine also hang out with nose down and tails up a lot. And they are healthy. Clowns just do weird things!

Also, I think the plastic plants are okay. I have a 37 gallon that has plastic plants, and it's been set up for over a year, and I've had no issues at all. They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but since that tank has no coral, I like the color and height they give.

    he looks fine to me..
clowns tend to sleep in odd positions, mine stay at the same spot looking down at night. ( same description of yours).

since he is rather new, i would say he is just a bit stressed and should be fine when he gets comfortable.

and i would also ditch the plastic plants. They just dont look good in a marine aquarium.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 1.021 a little low?
