I kind of agree with that also. Just be careful and increase the salt content slowly. Don't make big changes. Your clown looks lonely to me. Get him a mate soon then don't add any fish until you get your salt up. Mine is at 1.026. I replenish my tank with water changes from the gulf stream here is South Florida.
When you go to your fish store have them check or tell you if they know what their parameters are this way you know where you should aim for. Usually 1.023 or better is ok. Clowns are very hardy but other fish may not tollerate water conditions that are way out of whack to what they are accumtomed to.;)

Since this is a Fowlr you can have salinity at 1.020- 1.025
A reef needs it on higher end 1.023-1.026
However I would raise it at least to 1.023 IMO.

I agree. When I first started I kept a FOWLR tank at 1.020 and had fish in it for years with no problems. I will say though that 1.023 is a better place to be as it gives you a little margin for error (salt creep over time will lower your SG).
The other behavior seems normal to me for a Clown fish. They do some odd things when new to a tank. That's why they are called "clowns". ;D

Yes, the local fish stores I go to keep their fish only tanks around 1.021 for salinity. So that's okay. When you get coral you will want to raise that to around 1.025 or so.

I would say normal because my 2 clowns are hoasting a power head. They hang upside down alot between the PH and tank. I put yellow polyps on that side and the male (or smaller one) has moved down to them. The female will visit but goes back. I have had the for over a yr. I believe they are a pair now, because the bigger one nips at tail of smaller one and "He" turns and does the head dance.

Ok guys I will take your advice and gradually up the salt level to 1.023, I thought 1.021 was the desired limit for a FOWLR.

I just go the clown a few days ago, do you guys sugget getting him a mate right away?

I was just worried about adding 2 fish into my new tank and having a great effect on the bioload.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If the goal is to have a pair of clowns then aquiring them in a short span of time is a good idea. The first one looks small enough that if you get one the same size you should have little chance of aggression issues.

Bravo for thinking about bioload on a new tank:) That tank looks large enough that you should not have any problems. Just do not over feed and watch parameters.

Thanks Corailline... this is my first SW tank and I want to play it safe rather than sorry so trying to read up and be as cautious as I can...

I think I may go out today and get him a mate and some CUC maybe just 3-6 various snails...

How often should I feed the fish and what is the best time of the day to do it?

You can feed them anytime really.
I usually feed them an hour before the lights turn off.
You should feed once a day IMO..
What ever your fish can eat under 3-5 minutes. I think that's the general rule. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow.. just added the new clown in today and they both seem pretty happy... the one that was shy for the past few days is following the new one around all over the place and they both ate w/o any issues... (Really happy that the new one is already eating and has only been in the tank for an hour or so)..

So far both seem to be enjoying themselves and no fighting going on at all...
