Strange Unidentified Worm

I've had a worm (like most it only showed up at night) in my tank for a while that I couldn't identify but I started noticing that it was getting to be a real predator...it was eating my tube worms as fast as it could and stealing food from anything else close by. I've done a little research and I think it is a plumed worm. It is kind of salmon colored and very iridescent and as I mentioned definitely a predator. It also has several antenna extending from the front of his head and it has two small antenna like things on his rear-end.
Well I had a rock close to where this worm lived with about 20 tube worms on it and now I'm down to less that 10. I was wanting to add more inverts to my tank but was nervous about what this thing would do to them. My LFS suggested that I take the rock out it is living in and put it directly into freshwater and flush him out...well I did it...at this point I'm willing to sacrifice a rock to get the @%*%^ out of my tank. He still didn't come out but I knew that it must have killed him. I needed to be sure that I had, so I took a chisel and busted the rock up and low and behold there he was...he was HUGE...he broke in half but as a whole he had to have been 10 1/2 inches long. I'm looking for somebody to either confirm my suspicions or tell me what this thing is. I've attached a photo...please somebody end the suspense!!! :'( :'( > > :-/

 

potato worm...bad news

 

I just saw the other post about the guy who saw one in his LFS. Are these things rare??

 

Somewhere else in this board i posted a story about our lfs who found one 7', SEVEN FEET, long in their coral tank. Yes they are very predatorial.

 

I am really not sure, I think so

 

I wonder if they're good in tequila?

 

Are potato worms a type of bristle worm?

 

Well either way...he's dead and my tank is the better for it I think. I'm going to give my tank a few days to settle back down...I had to tear the thing apart to get to the rock he was living in...needless to say he was in a rock on the bottom. Do you know where I can find out more information about it? I also had two sand sifting stars that are RIP...one had been torn up pretty bad so I pulled him out and the other just disappeared...do you think he ate them?

 

From what I heard, they are similar but have those tubes that come out of their mouths. Not quite as much bristle as a fireworm or bristleworm. I figure if we can talk him inot touchin it with his wrist we'll find out.

 

Let me just say...this sucker about drove me to drink...tequila or anything else for that matter...I've been struggling with this for about 4 months.
