This is something I should of asked earlier. Can the stings of corals and anemones be possibly irritating or even potently dangerous to people. I just asking because I was placing my frags in the tank yesterday and my hand felt all irritated. I have got all soft corals and they didn't come with any warning but I thought I should ask before I get something stronger and end up twitching on the floor? [smiley=dizzy2.gif]

Maybe there were bristleworms sitting on the rock that the coral was on. They sting and can hurt quite a bit.

"ONE CAUTION: many zooanthids, especially Palythoas, contain palytoxin, a very potent poison. Make sure you don't get zooanthid juice in cuts, eyes, mouth etc as some of these guys could actually kill you. Fortunately, the colorful Zooanthus have much less palytoxin in them, but assume they all can kill you and you won't get careless with any of them."
This is a borrowed quote. But in my research I have found nothing to disprove it. This is a powerful complex toxin with no cure. Do a search on Google to learn more.

Yes, especially if you have allergies or have very sensitive skin. I've never had a problem but some have. It's best to wear gloves when working in a reef tank :)

many coral release many differnt irritants, ive touched just about every kind of invert common-rare in the hobby and suffered no more than mild BURNS!!! actualy have a scar on my hand from a wierd maze brain coral. Many warnings from people are highly exaggerated, but they should be just in case you have a bad reaction or hapen to be one of the very very very very very few who encounter a deadly invert. I once foun a tiny sea urchin in a LR shipment, turned out to have a severly strong toxin according to my books. Bristle worms are pretty painfull. Tube anemones, carpets, and some rock anemones carry a sting potent eough to burn you, carpets make my fingers tingle.
