What type of chiller do you have?

Does anyone have an opinion on JBJ Arctica Chillers?

    Thanks!

I've heard good things about them. Did you research on the prices? Luna

Yes, the best price I have found for a new 1/10 is $500 including shipping.

Well then, if that chiller you were asking about in the other thread is working perfectly, its a good price for $400. Go for it! Do you know the person? Luna

I saw a sealine 1/10th HP for $425 with free shipping and a current for $455 a wile back when I was thinking of one. If mem serves me right i think the 1/4 wasn't much over 550. Not a huge fan of JBJ in general.

Silverwolf74 - Thanks - Yes, we have tried fans & keep the cabinet doors open - which still doesn't help much.

Luna - As it turns out, the chiller I first mentioned was already sold :(
I guess it was an old ad. Thanks Luna!

dimweb - Thanks for your input - why are you not a fan of JBJ?

I have 2 JBJ chillers and love them, a 1/5 for my 150G and 1/15 for my 20G. I paid $450 and $220 respectively. They are very quiet, chill the tanks nice and steady so your fish don't go into thermal shock and are easy to use. Ebay is a great source for new chillers at good prices btw.
Make sure you get the right size though, factor in all your pumps, light heat, etc. JBJ has a nice calculator to assess your tank needs:

    Thanks Tigermike -

We ordered a JBJ 1/10 for our 90g - Did this after reading your post ;) How do you have yours connected? Can we T off of the hose for the main pump? Everything is in our living room & the fewer the hoses/equipment the better (it's one of the first things you see when you walk in our house).

I know what you mean. My house seems to be all fish tank. At my entryroom sits my nanocube. Then in my living room area sits my 150G on one wall, then the 65 on the adjacent wall. For your setup, you could use a T on your return pump, but you probably won't need to unless you have it driving something else, like a UV filter.
My tank is very basic. My overflow goes into my sump where my skimmer sits. I have my return pump feeding the input of the chiller, then that output goes into a checkvalve then into the tank. My UV filter is driven by my Eheim canister filter. Keep the flow to the chiller within the range it needs, I prefer the upper end so more water gets chiller. I believe the 1/10 is about rated about 300gph. Putting a T will essentially cut the flow to the chiller in half, as far as stated rating on the pump. Is there anything else you have connected to your return pump? If not, you can add a ball valve to slow the flow to the chiller. If you need help with setting it up or suggestions on plumbing, let me know. I'll see what I can do to help.
