Im not sure if this is the right spot for this if it isnt im sorry

I have a 55 gallon tank that is fairly new and i have a spare 10 gallon tank. I want to turn my 10 gallon into a sump because im tired of looking at all the junk in my tank and i heard its better anyway. I was hoping someone could help me step by step on how to set this up, im going to have to buy a HOB thing because my aquarium isnt pre drilled. Thanks in advance

I would personally go with a 20g long at least. I bought one and made my own sump for my 75g build. Check out my pics in my signature link and on my thread. It's very easy to build a sump. Let me know if you have any questions.

I was thinking the same thing. 10 is just a bit small to get everything you need in there and have room for evaporation.

This is a fairly standard design for a sump.

You would use the overflow to bring water into the skimmer compartment. It would overflow into the center section where you can put anything else you have (heater, carbon, etc). Then the water goes into the return section, to be pumped up into the tank.

All evaporation will show up in this return section. As the water evaporates, the return section water level will drop. This is usually where people add an ATO. Not required, but very handy.

I used a 30L for mine and it worked very well. I am still using my original sump even after I upgraded.

I thought a 10 would e small but that's all my stand will allow. I would completely start over and build me a stand but it's to late since my tanks already running

How big is your stand? A 20g long isn't that big.
