hi people, wish id bought a fuge setup to begin with but hey its my first tank and we all gotta learn right! i was just wondering if theres any way to turn a section of my sump into a fuge style area without have to stop the flow, drain and remove my sump, etc.
would be nice to be able to just chuck some sand, algae and live rock in there somewhere with a light. cos thats basically the deal isnt it?
my sump has the section where the water drains in which cant be used as its too turbelent isnt it? than that drains into a small section with black foam and on into the majority part of the sump which houses my skimmer, thermometer and pump. is there a way to make it work or would i need to remove sump and silicon in baffles and section of a dedicated area?

other option could i get one of those hang on refugiums, biggest possible and hang it on the edge of my sump and just run it like that? by the way not looking for anythin massive, my tank is 55 gallon i think. 24inch cube and my sump is in the cabinet below so not massive by any means.

any advice or suggestions would be helpful, thanks people

Do you have an area next to the tank where you could put a little stand and maybe a little 10 gallon display fuge??? Personally I don't have a full blown fuge on my 150 gallon nor do I want one but that's just me. I do have chaeto in there to suck up some nitrates but that's just about it. Your drain area wouldn't be to turbid for that as chaeto does well if it's tumbling.

i do have a little room next to my tank but i am not good with pumbing or flow rates and setups, etc. so i would have no idea how to set up a display fuge next to my tank, and that would be a problem with lights seeing as my tank is in my room and you have to run the lights reverse cylce for like 16hours while im tryin to sleep lol. is it possible to simply put chaeto in the drain area of my sump with a light? this would reduce nitrates right? i would really benefit from the entire fuge setup tho as i have a mandarin and a breeding ground for pods would be ideal. even a hang on style fuge is a problem for me as i have a hood on my tank which would foul the hang on style.

Here is a pic of my sump, chaeto in front I have an airstone under it to increase flow a bit. I also have a plastic container behind the chaeto with mineral mud and sand and mangroves, there's not a lot of water movement through the container, but it gets some, it has to do until I add an outside fuge. Sorry for lower pic quality but it may give you an idea of setup anyway.
