So ive been working on my sump and as you can see in the two pictures I have 1 tub that overflows into a 10 gallon tank. My issues is that when the pump is off and both containers are at max level, but when the return is on, it keep sucking in air... Its not a tornado form, but literally is almost running dry... I cant add anymore water to the sump or display otherwise it will overflow... worst comes to worst, I can tear down the baffles and make the return area larger or leave it out all together... The main baffle is 8" tall and the sump area is 9" wide and 7" deep (from front to back)... I planned on keeping the extra area in the 10 gallon as room for a skimmer and the tub as a fuge... Any advice:confused:

You maybe able to adjust your OF box up a little that will keep more water in the tank and when your pump shuts down you wont get as much water back to the sump. Also it will depend on your return going back to the tank when does it loose syphon when the pump turns off

Whisky Tango Foxtrot, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. You say "when the pump is off" and "but when the return is on. . " To what pump are you referring?

What I can see is that both your tub and 10 gallon tank seem awfully full. If that pic is when "power is out," then that's ok, but if that's a shot of normal conditions, you may be in for a problem--but I don't want to sidetrack the thread or complicate my response.

Which pump is sucking air? What's running dry? Where is this tornado almost forming?

So you're saying that after a "power out" scenario, immediately after the return pump comes back on, it drains the small section it houses before water replenishes it?

yes and it stayed that way... I had to remove the baffles and now its working properly... I didnt have a large enough pump area and I think the baffles were too high
