Here's all the info you need on sumps, and alot more on the rest of the site.

My 75gal sump is 18" wide.Is that 18" on the outside or 18" under the 125 where the sump will go? If it's 18 where the sump will go I would do the 75 if you still had a little extra room after it was in,you may want to add something later and I would leave a little room.

Mine came with the tank and stand I bought, just had to take the baffles out and re-do for my set-up.Alot cheaper to use an aquarium and just install the dividers/baffles.

Make sure you have enough room to get your skimmer cup off and out of the stand easy. Also make sure you can actually get the sump/skimmer under the stand in the first place, depending on how your doors/access are laid out some people run into real problems. You'll really need to measure everything very carefully or give yourself more than enough room.

I have 15" from where my supports are and my hinge are on the outside so there not a problem like most stands I think a 55 gallon tank is only 13" wide so that might fit under there aslong as it not 2 tall
