I just emptied the feeshwater out and im getting as much sand out as possible to switch my fresh tank to saltwater. If a very small amount of sand and water from the freshwater tank says behind is that ok?

Agree with cosmo, plus is it tap water? If so,the sand is probably full of phosphates and other tap contaminents. If it was me,I would start with a clean slate.

Yeah, I'm gonna mod my statement to what Grinder said, if its a small amount of sand, the problems it could cause seem to be a lot worse than the cost of new sand. I'd just get new.

Is the new sand already in there? If not, may be a good idea to wash the tank out and sanitize it! If you didn't use copper medication, ya should be fine, if so, just know that you're inverts may not live due to copper.
