I just upgraded to a 4 x 48'' HO T5 lighting system for my 55g tank. I was wanting to know if there is a certain distance between my lights and the top of my tank. I don't know if my lights are to close or if that is even possible. some of my soft corals and anemones i keep seem to not open as much and just wanting to make sure im not causing harm. Right now they sit aprox 2 inch away from top of tank. tank measures 21'' deep. any suggestions.

personally I would prefer 4 to 6" at least. are they suspended from above or did the fixture come with legs?
I'm guessing your corals and anemones are suddenly getting more light than they had? give them a few more days to acclimate, maybe cut down the number of hours a day the lights are on and then slowly increase it back up by an hour every other day.
Also a pic would also help :)

That distance is fine. Your corals are probably in light shock. Try cutting the hours you keep your light on a few hours and slowly bring it back to full time. A week is usually long enough.

    Edit:

    Grrrrr Too slow
