I personally don't care for true actinic's let alone two in a 6 lamp unit, but some love the look. I have seen a couple nice LPS tanks that are blue and actinic dominant. If you are not looking for sheer PAR output and would like to really acentuate colors than that will be a good mix for you. Sorry I cannot remember what are keeping?

my turn for a lighting question. its time for my 1st bulb replacement. current lighting is a 6x54 t5. 3 actinics and 3ho's. all are also 10k. while i like the bright white the ho's add to my tank , i would like to tone it down just a touch. would replacing 1 of the ho's with something like a fiji purple make that subtle difference? or going to 12k or 20k do it too in combination? i currently am keeping softies and lps's. thnx for any and all help.

Remember clams need more light than SPS!

Sometimes getting a better blue lamp such as the powerful Blue+ or actinic+ will give you more blue than most stock blue lamps...

IME a 1:1 ratio of blue to white such as (aquablue) is a great look, some think its too white or not blue enough... Fiji puple actually looks more violet than purple almost pink...
    2 white, 1 FJpurple and 3 blue+ will be a good look.
I take it you are running stock lamps?

Alright, thanks for your input, thinking I might forget the fiji purple, and run 3 aquablues, 2 pure actinic, 1 actinic+

Keep in mind that the Fiji Purple DOES have some good PAR output whereas TRUE actinics are not so great.. If you are looking at sheer output you might want to reconsider the 2 Actinic lamps...

Also 3 aquablue will provide a fairly white tank.. You might want to try 3AB, 2actinic+ and a Pure actinic..

    Just a thought.

    Hi Dr. Fragenstein

what do you feel are the benefits of the power chrome plus 22K actinic lamps over the standard 20K actinic lamps?

do you know any relative par values for these 2 types please

another question dr.frag. what are the pros and cons of a 6000k bulb. saw it called a midday bulb. would it "wash" out any attempts to blue up my lighting? thnx in advance.
