Last night I shut off my lights and maybe 2 hours later I notice my Powder Brown Tang acting really funny swimming. Like it was jerking around while swimming and making his top and bottom fin out like he was mad. He's been fine for the last 5 months and nothing has changed in my tank. All my corals are doing fine. My small naso is doing fine. I fed him today and he ate like normal. He always eats and he is pretty fat. I can't think of what is going on with him. I know my automatic power strip died on me and they were without lights for 2 days. I noticed my skimmer wasn't skimming anything, so I took it off and cleaned it out really well and also my hob filter and such. Any ideas?

Tangs do that when they get spooked out. But what are your parameters if you skimmer went out?

with the way it is acting along with your power strip problem, i wonder if you have any stray currents.

I will check the params tonight.

How would I check for stray currents?

I agree, if it happend all of a sudden then stray currents are a possibility.

voltage meter. i have never used one but if you do a search on this site for stray current or voltage, you should get plenty of threads with info.

You'll need to ground one of the probes of your multimeter in a wall outlet, then put the other in the water to see if you have stray current.

I noticed today my one frag of xenia was totally closed up and shrunk. I test my params and everything was fine except my PH is about a 7.8, which usually its around 8.2-8.4 and my calcium is over 490... tank is about 79degrees which is where it always it.. salinity is 1.025..

Make sure you put the probe in the ground of the outlet if you do test. I don't want to make it sound like I doubt your intelligence, I just know some people just don't know any better.

Good luck finding your culprit. It is scary to watch things like that happen when you don't have a clue why.
