I already have a hippo, so I don't want to cause an aggression issue. I also don't like the fact they lose the yellow when mature.

I would recommend a bristletooth tang to help keep any algal issues at bay. They do great jobs of keeping the tank clean.

I have a kole tang now, and while it may be a little plain to you, it is a great janitor, and it always active in the tank. It gets along great with my 6" sailfin in the 90g.

Now if you want a little different bristletooth, try a tomini tang, or a 2 spot bristletooth tang.

I had a binotatus (2 spot) and it was a great fish, but it got beat up too much by my maroon clown.

IMHO Anyone with enough room for 2 tangs or more should get a bristletooth to help with janitorial duties.

The sohals are a cranky fish. And kinda $$ too, although not kidney selling $$.

The orange shoulder tang is one of the only acanthurus that play nicely with others and seem to be the most docile of the acanthurus tangs. They also are around 100 dollars less $$ than a sohal.

I almost bought an orange shoulder tang when I got my kole tang. If it is still at the LFS I might buy it soon.

Keep in mind that sohals and orange shoulder tangs get huge, like over a foot, and pretty quickly. but that hippo won't be a runt either at 10".

hhhmmmm....i have a whole bunch of tangs! and my favorites are my clown tang and my desjardini sailfin, and the purple is a close third!

either of those would be cool, um a black tang might be nice, and a sohal would be spectactular, oh wait my powderblue is awesome too....

i would go with the powder blue, there somewhat tricky to water quality so not everyone has them, so you could try that!

I don't know much about tangs... but i looked at the link Remick provided.

The Achilles Tang is really awesome looking and seems affordable. Expensive, yes, but not crazy expensive for a showcase fish.

    No idea no compatibility though.
