My tang (Indian Gold Ring Bristletooth) is super mean to my tailspot blenny. He won't let him swim, at all really, and doesn't let him eat. If he sees the blenny out of the rocks he attacks him. I spot feed the blenny so he gets something.

What is the deal with that? They have similar coloring...but they don't have similar bodies at all! And my tang doesn't pick on any other fish.

I am going to put the tailspot in my fuge so he won't be harassed anymore. I'm just curious...it's weird.

perhaps because they are both herbivores? Many times fish that compete for food will compete with each other for space... do you have veggie clips of seaweed for your tang? maybe you could provide a couple different spots for them to get veggies, that way the tang won't defend one particular area....

Do they compete for the same food? I have noticed conflict in my tank between two fish that both go after algae, for example, even if they aren't similar looking fish.

Maybe? That's a good thought. But the tang doesn't bother my other blenny or my angel. But that could definitely be a part of it.

I don't put seaweed in all that often - my tank has a lot of algae for them to eat. lol But maybe I'll put a strip in and see if it helps.
