Is there a certain number of tangs one can put in their 150? I heard one guy with 8 tangs. I haven't seen it to believe it.

Does anyone have a powder blue tang and an achilles tang? I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on keeping them and what to feed them to keep their colors vibrant and healthy.

It depends whether you want your tangs to be happy. I'd put 2-3 in a 150... That's just my opinion. Some people have 15 in it just for show. As for the food, I haven't had experience with either fish, but all tangs need nome algae or seaweed to feed on. Some are more herbivorous than others, but all need a variety. Feed meaty foods too. I've had good experience in feeding mysis shrimp and cyclopeese. As long as it's healthy, it should have natural and vibrant coloring. Hope this helps.

agreed, i have a PBT and LOVE it...but i really dont think itd be a good idea to have a PBT and an AT in the same tank(especially since the minimum req tank for an AT is 180...150g might suffice for one or the other but not one...of course thats just my 2c

And this is off topic, but a little warning about all tangs: they're prone to ICH disease. The first symptoms are small white dots on the fins and body, but it can spread to every fish in the tanks. There aren't any cures for a reef aquarium that don't have some minor draw backs (such as a couple corals dying, a couple crabs) but I'd recommend always having a bottle of ICH-X around incase ich does surface. Or there's the FW dip, but that's risky.

For feeding those two fish. I would suggest soaking foods in vitamins and when you get them eating spinulara flakes help out real well

i'd keep like a yellow tang first since IMO they are cool lol and see if maybe i can put a blue tang too. but other then that keep like 2-3 maybe and i wouldn't get the achilles tang unless you can keep your parameters stable most of the time; very expensive fish

You could go with 1 yelllow and 1 royal and a naso
    or
1 yellow, and 3 other small-midsize tangs of many to choose from and 98% of tangs will get along if you introduce them properly.

Hello, I have 4 tangs in a 165 gallon reef:

Large Blue Hippo, Small Blue Hippo, Yellow, and a very Nice Purple tang. The big blue rules the roost.

I might be able to add 1 or 2 more tangs, but nothing more then that, and they would need to be smaller then what I have- even at that - no promises they will all get along.

Tangs are a weird fish, all of mine get along pretty good, but I have seen mixed tang tanks that were awful, but that is how it goes - sometimes you just don't know till you try it out- there is not set rule- only general guidelines to follow and use as a learning tool.

But I will say this- babies learn to live with each other much easier then adults- just like humans- keep this in mind. All my tangs (except big blue- he was a rescue fish and man is he cool) were babies, now they arent- but hey all you can do is try it and see, my advice- no more then 6 per 100 gallons- as babbies, 4 adults other wise. IMHO.

Is this ich x you are talking about reef safe? So I would be able to pour it in based on the directions and it would medicate all the fish as to prevent others from getting ich. Also it will not harm the soft corals I have. If so, I will definitely go get some to keep on hand.

What other fish do you have in the 165? Just curious about the quantity of fish?

I have 120lbs LR and about 100lbs of live sand.
