The plastic frame along the bottom of the tank appears to be seperated from the glass on both front corners. When I look in to the space I can see the silicone so the tank has been sealed. However it just doesnt seem right to me. Does this look normal? I emailed the pet shop and he said he doesnt think its an issue as the the bond is with the glass itself. He said the frame isnt what keeps the tank together. But he is going to contact the manufacturer anyway. Any professional advice on here?

A small amount of deformity is normal with glass tanks, They are rarely "perfect". Tanks do not necessarily need the framing but it is nice to have for weight distribution. If the tank is siliconed properly, it will be ok. If it were a sump, I would keep it. If it is a display tank I would exchange it if possible, for purely cosmetic reasons. Especially if it was expensive.

    Just my opinion.

Thanks guys. I really dont want to exchange it, mostly because I am very impatient an waited a long time for this tank to arrive. But if it means that it is structurally unsafe then I would rather wait 8 more weeks then have a catastrophe in my house! Lol. Not only that but if I hav to exchange it, I would be really pissed because I just payed a moving conpany to get it in my house! Maybe marineland can send a service repair man to re-seal it?

I got in touch with an engineer for Marineland and this is what he wrote.

From the pictures provided there does not appear to be a problem with this tank. *Since a 220 is a standard tank that we build, this is the way all 220's are going to be. *We have to allow some room for tolerance stack-up, so there is always some gap. *Also, the frames taper out away from the tank along the edge where they are pointing. *Due to the length of this frame it has some warpage along this length that is curving inward toward the glass. *This is not a structural issue.

I am glad they got back to you. I would definitely not lose sleep over the tank. I have seen worse seams(my 29 gallon bowfront has a terrible seam in the back.) But, You now have documentation of communication + pictures. Keep those emails and photos as insurance for yourself. If you ever have to make a warranty claim against them, those pictures and emails could be very helpful.
